In July 2011, the Toraño Family Cigar Company patriarch Carlos Toraño Sr. was presented with the Lifetime Achievement award by Cigar Journal Magazine to commemorate his service and dedication to the tobacco industry.
The Toraño Family Cigar Company is recognized as one of the oldest tobacco families in the cigar industry dating back to 1916 when Santiago Toraño founded the company in Cuba. Carlos Toraño, at the age of 16 was part of the nationalization of Cuba in 1959, where his family’s tobacco fields were taken away and were forced to leave the island.
The family remained active in the business seeking the finest quality tobaccos and Santiago’s son Carlos, was a leader and driving force of the Dominican Republic’s ’s tobacco growing industry.
In 1997 the family owned and operated its first factory in Esteli, Nicaragua and launched the Carlos Toraño brand. That Esteli factory is where the Toraño Tribute Series cigars, Casa Maduro and Cameroon 1916 are produced.
Today, in addition to the Nicaraguan Toraño factory there is also one in Danli, Honduras where Toraño makes their flagship Exodus 1959 cigars and many of their line of premium blends like the Toraño Virtuoso and Reserva Selecta.
The company is now operated by Charlie Toraño and the Company is still family owned and operated and maintains stature in every humidor. Schedule permitting, Charlie Toraño or another Family member will attend the event this Friday May 11.
Azunia Tequila will pair perfectly with the entire line of Toraño Cigars and Intersect Beverage State Representative, Kase Price, will be on hand to sample the USDA Certified Organic and 100% Blue Agave Azunia Tequila produced by the Zuniga Family in Amatitan, Jalisco Provence of Mexico.
