The Edison has a great summer planned and there is no doubt it’s the place to be more than just Wednesday night when it is ‘rockin’. The improvement continues there as they are scheduled to build a deck out back for lunch, dinner and cocktails on the green.

Blu Sushi did close their Naples location, but it had more to do with that location rather than a business loss.  Blu is currently searching for a North Naples location for re-opening in the fall.

Mirage Lounge and Eatery is scheduled to open soon in the building that was last known as McKinley’s just off College on Winker next to the Sonny’s.  Those that grew up in the FMY may remember when it was ‘The Shallows’.

Sweet Melissa’s new location is doing well on Sanibel, she expanded restaurant to 1625 Periwinkle Way in February. The former La Vigna is completely remodeled and features a full bar and 104 seats, including an outdoor patio.

Michael Molloy of Bevinco®, the bar inventory specialists recently purchased the right to the Fort Myers area and now covers both Lee and Collier County.  Bevinco® is the leading alcohol inventory control company and aids in profit management for bars & eateries.

Café Matisse has open in downtown Ft. Myers in the heart of the river district, taking over the corner space that had sat empty since Liquid Cafe closed four years ago. They’ll open every day for breakfast at 7 am and will serve coffee and creative international lunches and light fare all day. Like Liquid, live music will be featured on the weekends, but owners emphasized that Matisse is more coffeehouse than bar.

Look for a couple of local hospitality businesses to be added to the future of Mercato in North Naples.  More on that soon….

There is only one Crush.  Crush Magazine is their 6th year and recently a pretender has popped up using the Crush name as media and entertainment agency.   Are you kidding me?  In Southwest Florida there is only one Crush magazine and food and wine aficionados and OUR industry knows it.

The Bayfront Bistro is the tops on Fort Myers Beach and enjoying a better than expected summer. The view is great and the place is decorated like no other restaurant on the beach. The interior and well as the concept was designed by restaurateur Mitch Schwenke who delights all that visit his Blue Coyote Business & Social Club – the private dining club in Caloosa Yacht & Racquet Club in Fort Myers. He relied on Chef Josh Mitchell of the Blue Coyote and Corey Swarthout for their culinary and wine knowledge to create this great experience.

The Edison-Ford Foundation is planning a contest targeted to bartenders for their ‘Mad Scientist’ Costume event during Halloween Week.  Details will be posted first on BeverageUnderground.com but ‘The Edison’ on McGregor will host the event that will feature a creative cocktail contest as well as a costume contest. The Edison-Ford Foundation is a non-profit organization is dedicated to support restoration and preservation of the Edison and Ford Winter Estates and its educational programs.

It’s great to see Charlie ‘Tuna’ O’Dell back in downtown Ft Myers and behind the bar at Spirits of Bacchus.  He joins a professional staff in a very cool atmosphere that helps make going downtown better. Pour it on Tuna!

Speculation in Naples is that Sweet Tomato’s will be the new tenant in the old Macaroni Grill in North Naples.

Congratulations to Vin De Pasquale and everyone that makes ‘The Great Dock Canoe Race’ the very best, most fun event to look forward to every year. Typically held the second Saturday in May, next year’s race…and party… will be the 34th year!

In Cape Coral, Stargazer’s will be a casual dining sports bar oriented and family friendly and is scheduled to open in the old Stevie Tomato’s location at 3422 Del Prado Blvd South.  Stevie Tomato’s moved from there to their new facility in the Coralwood Shopping Center  at 2301 Del Prado Blvd.
