‘Hold ‘em High’! Oktoberfest Promotion at World Famous Cigar Bar is Entry to National Contest-
How long can you hold a stein of Sam Adams Octoberfest Beer? A local qualifying round of the National Sam Adams ‘Stein Hoisting’ Competition was held at the World Famous Cigar Bar on Tuesday Night September 27 at their Gulf Coast Town Center Location.
Guests enjoyed pint specials on Sam Adams and prizes and gifts were awarded to winners at the the local level. The Cigar Bar features Sam Adams year-round at both their locations. Winners at this and all local events held around the country in Official Sam Adams qualifying events could be on their way to Boston to battle for a trip to next year’s Oktoberfest in Munich Germany.
Hosted by J.J. Taylor Distributing locally, the National promotion is a tribute to the 200 year-old German holiday, as well as the award-winning autumn seasonal, Samuel Adams OctoberFest. Not only Boston-based drinkers but Sam Adams beer-lovers all across the country have been competing by hoisting one liter of OctoberFest in an official Samuel Adams beer stein. If you bend or drop your arm, you’re out!
The current qualifying leader is from Point Sebago, ME with an impressive time of 9:17 and events continue nationwide until October 15, 2011.

“It’s been a long-standing ritual to host a hoisting competition at the brewery each fall when we release OctoberFest – and we have a lot of fun with it. Our die-hard fans even come dressed up in lederhosen and dirndls – so this year we’re expanding the festivities nationwide,” said Samuel Adams Founder and Brewer Jim Koch.
“Samuel Adams OctoberFest provides a perfect transition from the lighter beers of summer to winter’s heartier brews, and hoisting a stein to Oktoberfest is a great way to welcome the season.”
The two hoisters who hold up the longest – one male and one female winner (nationally) – will be crowned the Samuel Adams National Stein Hoisting Champions and will receive the Grand Prize – a trip for two to the 2012 Oktoberfest celebration in Munich. Participants will be timed as they’re challenged to be the last man (and woman) standing. The rules are simple:
- Steins Up: Participants must hold their stein, with one arm only, perfectly straight out in front of them, parallel to the floor.
- Sipping and Spilling: Once he or she starts to spill, or drops or bends their arm – they’re out.
- Time Matters: Even if a local challenger is the last one hoisting, keep those steins in the air!
- All times are entered into the national competition, so every second counts.
