Orlando’s Amber Shaw to Represent Infinium Spirits at Tales of the Cocktail
Sari Sushi Bartender Wins Trip to New Orleans in 2012 Infinium Spirits Orlando Bartender Challenge
Amber Shaw designed winning cocktails in two categories and was the overall winner in the first ever Infinium Spirits Orlando Bartender Challenge held Wednesday May 9 at XL lounge in Downtown Orlando, Florida.
The contest was held for cocktail creation and presentation is a four category challenge using the luxury line of Infinium Spirits including Crystal Head Vodka, Zaya Rum, Casa Noble Tequila and a fourth for using one of remaining brands from the prestigious Infinium Spirits portfolio. Each Category held a $250 cash prize with the most overall points winning a trip for two with accommodations to Tales of the Cocktail.
Shaw, the bar designer and bartender at Shari Sushi will join Brad Coburn of Sarasota as guests of Infinium at this years Tales of the Cocktail to be held in New Orleans July 25-29, 2012. Coburn, of Pangea Lounge won the 2nd Annual Infinium Spirits Tampa Bartender Challenge last month.
In Orlando, nine contestants battled and judges saw creativity in every bracket especially in the fourth category where a cocktail using Borghetti Sambuca edged a cocktail made with Candolini Grappa. Two bartender’s also made refreshing cocktails using the all-natural Seagrams Sweet Tea Vodka.
The Infinium portfolio gems that were also part of the fourth category also included classic spirits Fernet Branca, Branca Menta, Borghetti Expresso, Punt E Mes and Carpano Vermouth Antica Formula.
Besides the trip for two, Amber Shaw picked up an additional $500 travel cash and took victories for her ‘Press on Zaya‘ cocktail using the 12-year aged Zaya Rum from Trinidad with a blend of three natural fruit juices. She also scored highest for her Casa Noble Tequila concoction called ‘All the Shake…with No Morning Headache’ .
The winning cocktail using the Pure Spirit, Crystal Head Vodka was designed and prepared by Adam Corbett of Sonoma Grill and Draught House of Orlando and Jordan Badran of the Stardust Lounge dazzled with his combination of Borghetti Sambuca, Salerno Blood Orange Liqueur and fresh juice of blood oranges, that he called Orange Booty
Corbett’s ‘Crystal of the Orient’ used Dan Aykroyd’s Crystal Head Vodka with fresh basil, along with Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur, agave nectar and fresh lemon juice to create his winning drink. Both Corbett and Badran won $250 for their efforts.
The independent judges graded cocktails based on ingredients, recipe, presentation and taste and both Todd McNulty and Larry ‘Smokey’ Genta returned to judge the Orlando Infinium Challenge along with local Orlando Food & Beverage Professional Travis Joiner.
Both Todd McNulty from the Tampa area is the Beverage Director at the under-construction boutique hotel and restaurants at The Birchwood Inn on St. Petersburg Beach, and Larry Genta judged the Tampa Bartender Challenge and Travis Joiner is an experienced Bartender, Beverage Manager and trainer from the Orlando area. Genta is based in Southwest Florida and operates BarMechanics LLC a full service Var and restaurant Consulting firm.
All the categories were close calls and heavily competitive and overall winner Amber Shaw edged Adam Corbett and Rick Gianassi of Ocean Prime in both for the Zaya Rum winner and for her unique Tequila drink using Carlos Santana‘s 100% Blue Weber Agave and Certified Organic line of Casa Noble Tequilas. Shaw’s cocktail using Candolini Grappa was edged by Jordan Badran in the portfolio category.
Infinium Spirits of Florida was well represented as was Premier Beverage Company the distributor of Infinium brands in Florida. Infinium Area Manager for South Florida David Kendall was the Master of Ceremonies and Steve Walleser, Infinium Area Manager for North Florida oversaw the judging and scoring. Phil Joffray Infinium Vice President and Area Manager for Florida was also in Orlando for the event.
