J.J. Taylor Awarded Craft Beer Distributor Achievement Award
The National Beer Wholesalers Association Honors Top Distributors for 2011
The NBWA (National Beer Wholesalers Association) and the Brewers Association has named their top craft beer distributors of the year during the recent Great-American Beer Festival held in Denver, Colorado.
Powers Distributing Company of Orion, Michigan was selected as 2011 Craft Beer Distributor of the Year, J.J. Taylor Distributing of Tampa, Florida received the Craft Beer Distributor Achievement Award and Gretz Beer Company of Norristown, Pennsylvania, received the Craft Beer Distributor Recognition Award.
The awards are in their fifth year and recognize beer distributors committed to growth, celebrating those that do the most to market, promote and sell craft beers. “The entrepreneurial spirit of craft brewers continues to add energy and excitement to the American beer industry, and it is this excitement that fuels the more than 1,800 breweries in the U.S.,” said NBWA President Craig Purser.
Powers Distributing is one of the nation’s most progressive sellers of craft beers, and they established their commitment in 2004, with the formation of the International Beverage Company, a specialty beer division within their company devoted to the education and sale of craft and specialty imported beer.
Currently, Power’s Distributing has two Certified Cicerones and another six Certified Beer Servers in the Cicerone program on staff. The Cicerone Program was started by Ray Daniels, President of the Craft Beer Institute as a three-tiered certification program for Beer Eduction much like the international wine experts known as sommeliers.
J. J. Taylor Distributing of Tampa, Florida received the 2011 NBWA Distributor Achievement Award. J.J. Taylor distributes on Florida’s West Coast from the Tampa market to Marco Island.
The National Beer Wholesalers Association and the Brewers Association represents America’s 3,300 licensed, independent beer distributor operations. The NBWA and BA has representatives and members in every state, congressional district and media market across the country. the organization is comprised of Beer Distributors who are committed to ensuring alcohol is provided safely and responsibly to consumers of legal drinking age through the three-tier, state-based system of alcohol regulation and distribution.
Brewers Association President Charlie Papazian was quoted at the annual meeting held October 1st, 2011, saying “As the craft beer segment continues to grow and thrive, independent beer distributors are integral to its success. Distributors like Powers Distributing Company, J. J. Taylor Distributing Florida, Inc. and Gretz Beer Company are key to successfully introducing new beer brands and innovative beer styles to markets across the country.”
