96-K-Rock Brings Rock & Rock Hall of Fame and Native Florida Band Back to Southwest Florida

Skynyrd G & GIt’s just so right-on that one of the cuts on their new album is called Skynyrd Nation. If there you could pick one band to be called a tried and true  ‘American Band’ I’d pick Lynyrd Skynyrd. Like our country, and like the millions of their fans…Skynyrd has withstood the harshest tests of time, great success and even greater tragedy. But after a very trying year for all of us…this band and this land is still standing and getting stronger everyday.  Lynyrd Skynyrd  is by far the epitome of resilience. The band has suffered more than any band, but when they first formed their family tree back in 1964 a brotherhood began that went regional in the seventies and became a ‘nation’ shortly after. Despite a plane crash in October 1977 , Skynyrd Nation rose up to span generations and on Thursday October 22 Southwest Florida got a special treat when 96 K-Rock hosted this iconic  ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’ Band . “God & Guns’ is the name of the tour, but its also the name of the critically acclaimed release that contains so many great tunes that span the musical dimensions of Lynyrd Skynyrd.  Classic guitar riffs and jams, bluesy, souful vocals and all that it takes to make an entire nation realize that beyond ‘Freebird’ and despite recent deaths and a career that has reached far and wide outside of their ‘Southern Rock’ roots… Lynyrd Skynyrd has a hit record, that captures the heart of America. See the band tonight, October 22 at Germain Arena.

Southwest Florida is home for Skynyrd lead guitarist Rickey Medlocke and this show was extra special.  96 K-Rock ’s Mark Haney, ‘Southwest Florida’s most respected news anchor’ stepped away from his ‘Stan & Haney‘ mic and stepped up to another when his band ‘The Buzzard’s’ opened the show for Lynyrd Skynyrd.
