Byron Donalds Emerges as the People’s Candidate for U.S. Congress
Barroom Banter with the Candidate that Breaks Age, Race and Political Barriers with a ‘Limited Government’ Approach
For years bartenders have shied away from talking politics and religion and here in Southwest Florida the political game is typically a battle for funds that is dominated by party lines and family ties.
So when BeverageUnderground.com began to hear hospitality professionals talk about Byron Donalds we got curious. Donalds and his staff didn’t hesitate when we contacted him to join Larry ‘Smokey’ Genta for some ‘Barroom Banter’ to answer a few questions that weren’t the usual political agenda.
Byron Donalds took time out of a schedule that includes a full-time job as a husband and father of three, a little league coach, a youth leader in his church, an active volunteer on various non-profit boards and committees and a Commercial Credit Officer in banking and a Financial Portfolio Manager to sit down at Blue Water Bistro at the Coconut Point Mall.
But if his life wasn’t already dedicated to family and community, back in January at the urging of clients and friends, he decided to throw his hat in a crowded ring to seek the Republican nomination for US Congress.
Byron Donalds is personable, articulate and ‘on-paper’ is the unlikely 33 year-old political outsider who is emerging as the candidate of the people for US Congress District 19, the seat that is being vacated by career politician Connie Mack who is now a candidate for US Senate.

“I wanted to find out who Byron Donalds is with his tie off, after a day of work and sitting down in an environment that I was comfortable with” said Genta, a 42 year resident of Southwest Florida. “I knew that my questions wouldn’t be usual and I was impressed that no one ever asked to approve them or to qualify me”, added Genta. We were two guys shooting the breeze”.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., and a Tea Party candidate, Byron Donalds has a degree in finance from Florida State University, which he said makes him ideal for going to Washington.
“I’ve never met Paul Ryan or Jeb Bush or Connie Mack. We’ve been listening to this political class for 50 to 100 years. Where has that taken us?” Donalds asks voters. “We are where we are because of who’s been here. People need someone who makes sense. I make sense.”
He’s a grassroots candidate who has rapidly moved from being an unknown to a contender and he isn’t worried that he doesn’t look like a Republican and isn’t worried that he doesn’t have the major endorsements that sways dollars and votes, in fact he says that those insider endorsements have been part of the problem.
Byron Donalds believes less is more when it comes to government and he knows that there is a work force in Florida that doesn’t care about party lines as much as they care about being the voice for change in the way tax money is spent.
“We won’t have reform in Washington without persuading the average voter of the conservative approach,” Donalds said. “What we’re trying to do is what’s best for the country.”
As a Commercial Credit Officer in banking and as a Portfolio Manager in financial services, Byron’s primary focus has
been providing additional certainty and reducing risk. He will use this experience to help solve the nation’s current debt and spending problems.
The Republican primary is Byron Donalds first try at political office and his opponents have backgrounds that includes law, medicine, real estate, media, and political bloodlines. He’ll battle Attorney Joe Davidow, Doctor Paige Kreegel, Real Estate Developer Gary Aubuchon, Former Talk Show host and TV Anchorman Trey Radel and Chauncey Goss the son of a politician and former CIA director Porter Goss.
The primary vote will be held Tuesday August 14 but early voting has begun in Collier County and begins in Lee County on August 4th.
Donalds is educated, down to earth and an independent thinker. He wasn’t always a Republican and ultimately it was his passion for history and the truth that ultimately led him to embrace Constitutional Conservatism.
Byron Donalds has adopted the political philosophy that embraces a restrained federal government in order to secure individual liberty and economic freedom . He vows to work to create a society that allows all people to improve their lot in life.
Byron Donalds has lived in Naples for nine years and he and his wife Erica have three sons, Damon, Darin and Mason and is a citizen concerned about the unsustainable debt that is being passed to future generations.
