When Norton ‘Sky’ Cooper had the good sense to import the legendary raspberry liqueur from Chateau de Chambord in Loire, France he wanted to pay tribute to the 300 year history of the cognac based spirit.  It was nearly 30 years ago when his company, Charles Jacquin et Cie, introduced the now iconic  spherical bottle with a gold plastic lettered cording around the middle. It was classy even elegant in the 80′s… but  it’s time for change is overdue and the ‘gold plastic belt’ is going away as Brown-Forman gets ready to give the brand a marketing push worldwide. In addition to the change in packaging, Brown-Forman will also introduce Chambord Vodka, a French 70° Vodka infused with authentic Chambord Liqueur. Cooper developed and built Chambord and sold it for $255 million in 2006 to Brown-Forman, one of the largest American-owned companies in the wine and spirits business. 3 chambord bottle ch tilted 145x200 Finally! A favorite of mixologists and used in a varieties of cocktail and food recipes, Cooper sold the brand that made his fortune after Chambord enjoyed years as a growth brand in the US. The sale was prompted after Cooper  recognized the increasing difficulty in reaching the lucrative international markets that Brown-Forman has established with a portfolio that leads with Jack Daniels.

Chambord is proprietary and a classic spirit that begins with black raspberries, or framboises noires as they are known in France, that are infused with a fine cognac that has been mellowed and aged at least four years in oak barrels. After this basic infusion, red raspberry, currants and blackberry extracts are added. Closer to the end of the liqueur making process spices such as mace, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and vanilla are added along with several other herbs, orange and lemon.
