china beer China Still Top Beer Producer and Consumer Okay, it may be news to some that China has been and still remains the world’s No. 1 beer nation. But the population drinks more beer than any other alcoholic beverage and because of it, China has maintained its position as the world’s biggest beer nation. Last year China topped the rest of the world producing more than 410 million hectolitres. A hectolitre is equal to 100 liters and China now produces four times the volume that is produced in Germany.

China also recorded the highest growth in output of all countries in 2008, with an increase of more than 17 million hectolitres. Germany, with
beer output of about 103 million hectolitres, is now in fifth position in the
world rankings, behind China, the USA, Russia and Brazil.

In Europe, output fell by nearly 6 million hectolitres, while in America it rose by nearly 12 million hectolitres, mainly due to increases in South America.There was also growth in Asia, with nearly 16 million hectolitres, and in Africa, with more than six million.
