newsboy 164x200 All Around the Underground: Mark Ferrari rejoined his friends at Handsome Harry’s on Third Street just in time for The Naples Winter Wine Festival. Mark is a pro that has created and designed award winning wine programs and always brings education and experience to every staff.

Bayshore Landing debuts this week at the former Bayshore Coffee House in East Naples. Musician and songwriter Robyn Schoessel who used to perform at Bayshore Coffee has stepped in to launch a cafe and music venue there.

Now that the Minnesota season is over you may see Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress at Dolly’s in Bonita for breakfast. Childress and his family spend the off-season in Southwest Florida and are fans of Dolly’s homemade pies.

Now here’s a truly special love affair that has hospitality and beverage connection. Jason Testa who is one of the most respected and successful General Mangers in the Miller’s Ale House organization is marrying his best friend Michelle Soumastre who is a sales representative for Coastal Wine and Spirits this spring. We know they both have so many friends in the industry that wish them the best all that life has to offer.

The Father & Son team of Bob and Zach Brinley enjoyed another great year of growth with their exquisite Brinley’s Gold Rum family of St. Kitts flavor infused rums. Zach confided that they hope to launch Brinley’s Shipwreck Rum the finest aged spiced rum of the Caribbean sometime in March. Beverage Underground will conduct industry focus group tastings and samplings.
The Pavillion in Naples that is directly across from Mercato will see a piano bar with a tropical wave open this month.  The Keys Bar & Grill will feature a dueling piano bar and will open between Grumpy’s Tavern and the China Pavillion and hopes to draw a local and laid back crowd.

A European chain restaurant launched  in Naples, Italy, in 1997,  opened  its first restaurant in the U.S. and in Naples Florida this week. Rossopomodoro opened at Fifth Avenue South and Eighth Street South. Until 2006, it was the location of Naples Fifth Avenue Pharmacy for 35 years, and the site of Rexall Drug Store in the sixties.

Mike D’Angelo is a new account representative for Opici in Naples but he’s far from new to the industry. For the past several years Mike was the general manager and maintained the huge inventory and record sales at the ABC Liquors on Immokalee Road.

PF Chang’s is currently featuring one of our favorite Australian producers Peter Lehmann with his two exciting blends in BTG features. We recently enjoyed both the Clancy’s Red Blend of Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot and the delicious and recommended Layers that is a white blend of 5 grape varieties Semillon, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat.

Besides Icabod’s closing a couple other high profile locally owned locations have checked out in mid-season.  Bacchus in the Bell Tower quietly went away, and sadly after several years in business Mille Sapore on Summerlin has closed the doors on their Mediterranean Restaurant.

Here’s a night out that will be long on fun…Tuesday Nights at Groove Street Eddie ‘Fishbowls’Sheridan and Charlie ‘Tuna’ O’Dell throw a old school party called “TunaFish”.  Drinks specials and something crazy will happen for sure as Ft Myers looks for a Tuesday place to go since Ricochet closed.

The Buckingham BluesBar has been blowing it up with Live Music and Wednesday Nights Jam Session is packing them in. Monthly Blues Festivals and touring blues artists have been making stops at Buckingham for many years.

Bonita Beach Road is a busy ‘restaurant row’ these days as The Tuscan Bistro, Jimbers and The Stage are all open and doing business in locations that opened a close a couple of times before. The Tuscan Bistro reopened where Crust was last season and Jimbers is where the Tiki Bar was known for Bike Nights. The Stage has opened in the old Spectator’s location in Sunshine Plaza.

Miss Jordan Englehardt will be in Southwest Florida on Thursday February 18  to introduce her NO CALORIE alternative ‘Skinny Mixes’ at Bistro 41 in the Bell Tower. It will also be the Sw Florida debut of SIKU Vodka. Skinny Mixes are available in SW Florida through BarMechanics.com or from the BeverageUnderground.com mall.
