Bärenjäger Announces Winner in Annual Oktoberfest Bärtender Cocktail Competition
Philadelphia’s Katie Loeb is the First ‘Queen Bee’ to Win Nationwide Bärenjäger Honey Liqueur Drink Recipe Contest

Katie Loeb will be taking some time off from her duties as the Chief Intoxicologist at Han Dynasty in Philadelphia this month as she is off to Munich Germany for Oktoberfest as the winner of Bärenjäger Honey Liqueur third annual national Barenjager Bartender Competition.
The Barenberry Mule was selected from six nationwide finalists and for her award winning cocktail, Katie Loeb wins the all-expense paid trip for two to Oktoberfest 2012 in Munich, Germany and $1,000 spending…and tipping money.
Besides being the first female to win the award she was again recognized for her contribution to constructing creative cocktails using fresh ingredients from the herbs to the juices. The panel of judges selected from 400 entries from the nation’s best mixologists in the online competition that is held annually beginning in July.
Judges included Geoffrey Zakarian, the celebrated Iron Chef and restaurateur behind some of New York City’s most iconic restaurants including The Lambs Club and The National.
Zakarian was joined on the panel by Dushan Zaric also of the NYC based Employees Only and Macao Trading Co, Tad Carducci, award-winning New York mixologist, restaurateur and co founder of Tippling Brothers which hosted the finals. Jeffrey Morgenthaler, award-winning bartender and bar manager at Clyde Common in Portland Oregon and Bridget Albert,the Southern Wine & Spirits Regional Director of Mixology in the tri-state region of Illinois, Kentucky and Minnesota.
Bärenjäger is imported exclusively by Sidney Frank Importing Company, Inc., New Rochelle, NY. and is made with pure premium natural honey from Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Each liter bottle contains 300 grams of pure honey and other natural ingredients resulting in a subtly sweet, spicy and herb edged taste profile. In a shaker combine:
2 parts Rittenhouse 100 proof Rye Whiskey
1 part Bärenjäger Honey Liqueur
1 part fresh lemon juice
¾ parts Berry Thyme Essence
2 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake well and strain into a highball glass full of fresh ice. Top with Reed’s Extra Ginger Brew Ginger beer and garnish with a lemon twist and a blackberry
In a mixing glass combine:
1.5 parts El Dorado 5 Year old Rum
¾ parts Bärenjäger Honey Liqueur
.5 parts Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao
2 dashes angostura orange bitters
Add ice to the mixing glass and stir until chilled
Strain into a chilled cocktail coupe and garnish with an orange peel.
